Andrew commenced his Graduate position at GMK Partners in 2010 and enjoys working in the fun and friendly environment at GMK Partners.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from Swinburne University
Why did you choose GMK Partners as an employer?
I wanted to work for a firm that would give me practical, hands on experience, whilst at the same time providing me with training and skills I would need for my future career.
I felt GMK Partners were best able to provide this in a fun and friendly environment.
What training did you receive as part of the Graduate program?
Our graduate training was based around improving the broad knowledge we had received at university, into focused skills we could use day to day. Detailed tax and accounting practises and procedures were a key component of the training. We also received tuition on the computer software we would be using everyday. The training has been on-going which helps meet new challenges as we progress.
What have been the highlights of your experience at GMK Partners?
The culture. The firm is such an open, happy environment. Immediately we were made to feel welcome and at home. Everyone from directors down, are approachable and happy to help with a problem, or just have a chat about the footy on the weekend.
What's a typical day in the office?
A typical day will involve processing tax returns, financial statements and whatever other accounting or taxation issues our clients might have.
What piece of advice would you give to someone starting their career at GMK Partners?
Enjoy their experiences, ask lots of questions and make the most of opportunities. The environment I have found here has been fantastic. There is always someone there to support and encourage you. There is a great culture here, so make the most of it.
There is a healthy social life as well, with so many other staff our age and so many great bars within walking distance, why wouldn't there be! The social club is constantly coming up with great and innovative ideas.
Favourite lunch spot:
QV. There is just so much choice. Grill'd would probably be my favourite.
